The Artistes:

Pandit Uday Bhawalkar is one of India’s foremost exponents of the deeply traditional, centuries old discipline of Dhrupad.  He hails from Central India. Udayji now lives in Pune.   He trained under the illustrious Ustads Zia Fariduddin and Zia Mohiuddin Dagar.  He is a consummate teacher and performer.  He has performed twice before in Albany.  Information about his numerous awards, recordings professorships etc is available on the web.

Sanjay Agle:  Hails from a family of Pakhawaj players from Indore in Central India.  He received his initial training from his father and later trained under Pandit Pagaldas.  He has frequently accompanied Udayji and played in other percussion ensembles in India.  This will be his fist time performing in Albany.

The Organization:

Classical Concepts is an organization dedicated to the promotion and propagation of Hindustani Music in the USA. In keeping with its special emphasis on youngsters, the admission for children 10-18 yrs is either free or nominal for its events.

The Music:

Dhrupad: The tradition is many centuries old. In some ways it is heavier than Khayal for listeners, but on another plane, it is more contemplative and meditative. It touches you on a deeper level.  It is more abstract and therefore transcends language barriers.
